Cost includes: Equipment Rental, Instruction, and Transportation from Santa Fe and Rafting on the Rio Grande.
Kokopelli Rafting is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Rafting takes place on the Rio Grande, one hour north of Santa Fe. Training encompasses the fundamental skills of reading whitewater and maneuvering boats, as well as knot tying, raft rigging, signals, passenger safety talks, safety techniques, and the finer points of creating safe, enjoyable river trips. The goal of the guide school is to develop the skills necessary to safely guide a paddle raft on Class III Whitewater.
After guide training, select guides who are interested in employment will have the opportunity to gain more experience and confidence by riding along on commercial trips with Kokopelli Rafting's experienced guides.
Those seeking employment with Kokopelli Rafting will be required to obtain current Basic First Aid and CPR certification. Before employment, a copy of all certificates must be on file with Kokopelli Rafting. They will also need to obtain the BLM-required safety equipment: PFD, river knife, whistle, and throw rope. Participation in the guide school does not gurantee employment, however each year select participants join our regular Santa Fe based seasonal staff.
